The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) inaugurated the one-year full-time Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM).The inauguration session was followed by orientation sessions on April 3rd & 4th with classes commencing for the new batch from April 6th, 2009. This programme has been designed specifically for executives is now offered in addition to the other ongoing long duration management programmes offered by IIM-B. Members of the Board at IIM-B admitted that in the context of the changing economic order, evolving a long term vision is a challenge for most entrepreneurs. Innovation can deliver the competitive edge, and managing innovation effectively can make the difference between success and failure.
Executive PGPM has an innovative approach to the syllabus and course content. For the first time, the realm of social sciences are being integrated into management studies in a structured manner, leading to a nuanced, multi-layered understanding of management issues. Seminars will be anchored by experts and practitioners in the fields of liberal arts, sociology and environment will form a significant component for learning and pedagogy. One unique feature of the Exec-PGPM will be the comprehensive project where each participant will apply management concepts and methodologies in a real life management problem. The Main objective of the executive PGPM is intensive study of emerging markets and analysis of the context of each country achieved through experiential study tours in the BRICs countries and in Africa. With diversity being a stated objective, the Executive PGPM batch comprising 73 students includes participants with wide-ranging skills, background, exposure and experience, such that learning through peer group exchange and knowledge sharing is likely to be one of the most beneficial aspects of this programme.
